Alice co-founded Merit in 1979 with Emma Endres-Kountz and she served as Merit’s founding Executive Director for fourteen years. After her retirement as Executive Director in 1992, Mrs. Pfaelzer continued as a devoted Trustee and tireless advocate for the organization until her death. Her many loyal and adoring friends have been steadfast supporters of the school since its inception.

Thanks to her vision and leadership, the lives of more than 45,000 children have been changed since 1979. Her tremendous legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of thousands of Merit students past and present, thousands more in generations yet to come, and in the hearts and souls of those of us who were lucky enough to have known her.
